India Hobo Bag

(26 customer reviews)

India’s crossbody boho vibe appeals to the flower child in all of us. Tie a knot in the long strap to wear it as a shoulder bag. Two open pockets and two zippered pockets will keep everything organized. And it’s even reversible so be sure to choose a lining fabric wisely. Two size options included.

  • Large Hobo: 14″ x 10″ x 4″
  • Small Hobo: 11″ x 8″ x 3.5″

  • 1 yard exterior fabric, 44” home decor or quilting cotton weight
  • 1 yard lining fabric, 44” quilting weight
  • 4 yards 20” mid-weight fusible interfacing
  • Two 7” all-purpose zippers
  • Coordinating thread
You should already be somewhat familiar with sewing patterns and common sewing terms.

You MAY sell bags you make with this pattern.

This is definitely a favourite for me – love how easy the pattern is and it’s great as an introduction to bag making because of the minimal hardware 🙂

Clever, easy pattern, with a lovely result. I will definitely make more of these — great for gift-giving, as it’s not too time-consuming and doesn’t use hardware. You can easily omit zippers if you prefer. Great bag!

This bag is lovely, and the pattern is very easy to follow HOWEVER, I felt like I had to drop a couple of stars for design. The pictures all show the bag being worn cross body (which makes sense with a casual, slouchy bag like that), but I don’t feel like the strap is long enough for that. As shown in the pic with the actual human (not a dress form), the bag hits around your waist. Both my daughter and I found it uncomfortable. It might work for a very thin or short person, but would be unusable for anyone plus-sized or with a large bust. I would suggest that the pattern be updated with a note about the strap length and an option to lengthen (or shorten) it.

I purchased this pattern for my daughter who loves hobo bags. I made it for Christmas for her. It was a hit. Another daughter has requested one to carry her yoga gear in. Easy to make, and I learned a new way to install zippers.

My first foray into the world of bag making and I can truthfully say it was successful. Made a large India and a matching reduced size small India for my 2 year old daughter – both tuned out great! Pdf pattern was ideal as could start on the project immediately, the step by step instructions were clear and easy to follow. Glad I bought the subscription – I’ve since made a Coraline and a Dakota and I’m planning on making more!

Just a great bag to sew. Very versatile, easy, and fun. I’ve made the large and small, made some adjustments to meet my customers’ needs, and this is the best bag for so many needs. My teacher friends fill it with stuff for field trips, my moms fill it with all they carry outside the diaper bag. There’s blogs that help you create the bag you want. I’ve lost count of how many of these I’ve made. It’s a great pattern.

My friend wanted to update a purchased bag she had used for 5 years and she loved the picture of this bag and said this was it. I made it this past week. She is in love with it! She wouldn’t let it out of her sight! She has been busy showing it off locally. The reason for the new bag was for her sister’s wedding tomorrow. I think she has an extra bounce in her step. The pattern instructions were great and the bag went together without a single glitch. Love that! Yesterday I purchased fabric to make a bag for my husband’s aunt. Great pattern and one to own!
