Nora Doctor Bag

(7 customer reviews)

Nora is a classic handbag inspired by doctor bag purses of the past. True to the style, this bag opens wide but does not require an expensive frame. There is one large zippered pocket in the lining. Three sizes are included in this sewing pattern (traveler size not included in the paper pattern).

Printed paper pattern also includes a downloadable PDF pattern.

Ami Yura suggested really stiff boning, could anyone tell me where to get it from and what it is actually called. Thank you

They sure pegged that level of difficulty but boy was this worth it. It turned out beautifully. I think with this pattern more than most it’s about the fabric! I made the traveler bag. I would say that if you had a heavier leather or vinyl use an industrial/commercial sewing machine rather than a conventional home machine. The layers get really thick and unyielding. I love this pattern!

This was my first Swoon pattern and was the gateway to buying a subscription to more! I found that the instructions were very clear and I like how there are digitally created graphics to simulate the construction of the patterns as they are more accurate than photos. What also helps are the photo tuts to make sure you’re doing everything right. Anyway, Nora is an absolutely beautiful bag – I suggest getting really stiff boning rather than the flimsier kind because the opening to the bag may sag or bend oddly!

This was the first of many Swoon bag patterns I have bought, they all have the best instructions of any patterns, but this pattern is my favourate. It is FABULOUS !
