Julie is a modernized blast from the past that’ll take you back to the disco days. This is a large handbag that features two pleated slip pockets, one inside and one on the exterior. The instructions walk you through how to make and sew your own round handbag handles, or you can use premade wooden, bamboo or even plastic handles. I had the privilege to test this bag for Alicia! It is yet another great sew! The instructions are clear and concise. It’s so important to go step by step and not skip around, or you will miss something. Alicia leaves nothing out to get you confused, as long as YOU follow the directions! The most difficult part is top stitching around the handle, but if you take your time and get as close as you can with a zipper foot or smaller, you’ll be very pleased with the results. There are great instructions for making your own handles, or if you’re lazy like I am sometimes, you can buy pre-made ring handles and they work great too!

One of the things I love about Swoon is that some of the bags have a cool vintage vibe, but with modern fabrics, they turn into something of their own! Very well written and another great add to the Swoon family!

Julie is my 4th Swoon bag. It might be that I am improving with my bag making skills; regardless, I really enjoyed making her! The instructions are clear, concise and well written. I am a visual learner and struggle without lots of photos, but by reading and rereading the instructions she came together quite quickly for me.
In fact I like her so much another one is 3/4 made.
I’m now looking forward to choosing my next pattern

Cannot give this attractive pattern a five as the handles are rather difficult to sew against once you have them inside the bag. I made mine on a vintage Singer 401. Even with a zipper foot, the needle screw stopped me from sewing very close as the bamboo handles stopped the presser foot. After ripping out and redoing several sections up against the handle, I finally got it done. But it doesn’t look as nice as I would like. I will use it for storing sewing supplies instead of for shopping. The openings on either side of the handle were bunchy and wrinkly even though I clipped curves and trimmed the seams and pressed.
Please make a tutorial for attaching the handles and finishing the top of the bag. Preferably a YouTube video and not just photos. I’ve made dozens of bags and this one was one of the most frustrating due to the handles.
